~ Middle School Coach Appointment Policy ~

All HCYP Basketball Middle School coaching positions are volunteer positions and are appointed on a
season-by-season basis. Previous service as an HCYP coach does not guarantee appointment or
reappointment for a future season.

HCYP Basketball reserves the right, in its discretion, to appoint or decline to appoint any individual to a
Middle School coaching position based upon the needs of the program, the qualifications and experience of
the applicant, available teams and facilities, and compliance with HCYP Basketball requirements.

Coaching Experience

Because HCYP Middle School Basketball is a competitive program, preference may be given to applicants
who have demonstrated coaching experience at the travel, competitive, middle school, or comparable level.
HCYP Basketball may decline to appoint an applicant when the applicant does not possess the experience
or qualifications considered appropriate for the position.

Mandatory Coaches Meeting

All prospective Middle School head coaches must attend the designated mandatory coaches meeting
unless an exception is approved in advance by the Middle School & Travel Basketball Commissioner.
Failure to attend the mandatory meeting may result in the applicant not being considered or appointed for
that season.

Application and Appointment Deadline

All prospective coaches must express their interest and complete any required application or appointment
process by the deadline established by HCYP Basketball. Requests received after the mandatory coaches
meeting or the established coach appointment deadline may be declined.

Team and Program Capacity

The number of Middle School teams HCYP Basketball can accommodate each season is determined by
several factors, including player participation, gym availability, scheduling limitations, league structure, and
other operational considerations. Once HCYP Basketball has reached its established capacity for Middle
School teams, HCYP Basketball is not obligated to create or accept additional teams or appoint additional
coaches, even if an interested coach or group of players becomes available after the deadline.
Final Appointment Authority

Submission of a coaching application, attendance at a coaches meeting, previous coaching experience,
prior service with HCYP, or the availability of players does not guarantee a coaching position or the
formation of a team. All Middle School coaching appointments and team approvals are subject to final
review and approval by HCYP Basketball leadership and the Middle School & Travel Basketball
Commissioner.

Purpose

These guidelines are intended to provide HCYP Basketball with the flexibility necessary to
maintain a safe, competitive, organized, and well-managed Middle School Basketball program while
providing a fair and consistent process for prospective coaches.
